Eye Care Services

The Eye Care Department at Dimock provides comprehensive eye care to patients of all ages. In addition to routine eye exams, the clinic provides treatment for eye diseases, contact lens services, urgent care and a full eyeglass dispensary. Specialty services include pediatric vision care and glaucoma and cataract surgical consultations. In addition, we collaborate with other centers to offer low vision, vision therapy, refractive surgical and specialty contact lens service referrals and follow-up care.

Eye Care Department Staff

Purvi Patel, OD, FAAO
Clinical Director
Dr. Patel received her Bachelor's degree from The College of New Jersey in 1996 and her Doctor of Optometry from the State University of NY College of Optometry in 2000 through a joint accelerated B.S.-O.D. program. She completed an Ocular Disease and Special Testing Residency at SUNY College of Optometry in 2002. Before coming to Dimock, Dr. Patel was Director of Eye Care services at Whittier Street Health Center for 3 years.
Dr. Patel is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Optometry at the New England College of Optometry and has an attending clinician appointment to the New England Eye Institute. She is a member of the Massachusetts Society of Optometrists and the American Optometric Association, and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry.
Clinical interests: Diabetes, Glaucoma, Community-Based Eye and Vision Care, Public health & Epidemiology, Clinical Optometric Education.
Languages: English, Spanish, Hindi, and Gujarati.

Anney Kunthara, O.D., F.A.A.O.

Dr. Kunthara received her Bachelor’s degree from The University of Texas at Austin in 2001 and her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Illinois College of Optometry in 2006. She completed a residency in Primary Care and Low Vision at the Lake City Veterans Affairs Medical Center in 2007; here she provided comprehensive eye care to veterans and also worked directly with the Ophthalmology Department at The University of Florida College of Medicine and Shands Hospital in Gainesville.

Dr. Kunthara is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Optometry at The New England College of Optometry and an Attending Optometrist with the New England Eye Institute. She became a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry in 2007 and is a member of the American Optometric Association, the Massachusetts Society of Optometrists, and the Texas Optometric Association.

Komal Thakore, OD

Dr. Thakore has been a practicing optometrist since 1999 in the UK where she graduated from the University of Aston in Birmingham, she also spent a year practicing in Nairobi, Kenya and received her Doctor of Optometry degree from the New England College of Optometry in 2006. She completed a residency in Family Practice, at the Dorchester House Multi-Service Center in 2007.
Dr. Thakore is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Optometry at The New England College of Optometry and an Attending Optometrist with the New England Eye Institute. She is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Massachusetts Society of Optometrists.

Clinical Interests: Primary care, accommodative dysfunctions, anterior segment conditions

B. Andre Quamina, MD

Dr. Quamina received his Bachelor of Science from Duquesne University and both a Master of Find Arts in Neurochemistry and Doctorate of Medicine Degrees from Boston University School of Medicine in 1965 and 1966 respectively. Following completion of his degrees Dr. Quamina continued at Boston University Medical Center University Hospital for both his medical internship and his ophthalmology residency.
In addition to his private practice, Dr. Quamina holds the title of Medical Director of the Ophthalmic Technology Program and Associate Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at Boston Medical Center. Dr. Quamina is also holds an Adjunct Clinical Faculty appointment with the New England College of Optometry and is the consulting ophthalmologist for Dimock Community Health Center, Dorchester House Multi-service Center and South End Community Health Center. He has served community health centers for over 32 years and has been honored with New England Eye Institute’s Community Service Award.

Sergey Urman, M.D.

Dr. Urman received his Bachelor's Degree from Brandeis University in 1998 and Doctor of Medicine degree from Boston University School of Medicine in 2003. He then completed his internship in Internal Medicine at Mount Auburn Hospital, Harvard Medical School, in 2004. Following the completion of his internship, Dr. Urman received training in Ophthalmology at Boston Medical Center.

In addition to working in private practice, Dr. Urman is an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Boston University School of Medicine and is an attending ophthalmologist at Boston Medical Center. He is a member of American Academy of Ophthalmology, Massachusetts Medical Society, and New England Ophthalmological Society
